Happy New Years Eve!

I realize I haven't posted in a very long time, so forgive me! Things have been crazy around here & I haven't had the time to stop in.

Hopefully next year, I will be back in regular posting action! But for now, have a very {safe} and Happy New Year! We will be celebrating at the new house in style!

Cheers!

House updates!

Tile - done
Appliances - done (sort of, more on that in a sec)
Flooring - done
Lighting/electrical - done
Heating - done
Cabinets - almost done

We are getting so so close. This was a bit of a challenging week - light fixtures that don't fit code, carpet that is on a boat from Greece, faucet holes drilled incorrectly on a limestone slab, refrigerator is smaller than expected..

However, with all the bummers, there have been some serious yays! With each challenge, it is just a matter of figuring out the best solution - not always fun. Here are some photos from the past week.
My sweet deck. You can guarantee there will be some serious sun tanning happening there...
 My g.o.r.g.e.o.u.s marble countertops!
reclaimed beams & the hole where the chandelier will be (I won't spoil the surprise on which one I went with!)
The wood floors & a peek at the fireplace in the living room
 Guest bath
Front entryway closet with a beautifully crafted barn door
My range. I am in love. My refrigerator? Not so in love... it is a bit small (more than a bit) and I am having a very aggressive fight with myself on what I should do about it...

In the end it will all work out, I am sure of that! If there is one thing I nailed, which I didn't think I would - it would be the paint colors. I am so happy with the mix of colors throughout the house! Phew!

San Diego snaps

I feel like the only posts I do these days are catch up's. I apologize for being a very inconsistent post-er, but I just don't know where the days go!

So, San Diego for Thanksgiving was amazing. Tons of family time, tons of delicious food, and lots of celebrating! For two years know, Sam has been trying to fulfill a birthday present of taking me hot air ballooning. Thankfully, the weather cooperated and we got to go. Virtual fist pump Mother Nature.

It was so fun, and I would highly recommend it.
PS: Sam's 'stache was not my idea, and was not endorsed by me. In fact every day I commented on it, he added another day to it's life. So no, I did not like that thing surrounding his lips. Oh, Movember...
These are the little place cards my sister, brother, Sam and I made. We clearly had some time on our hands... They were little peanut pilgrams on ships!
I will give an update on the house tomorrow - need to snap some more photos!

Chandelier help

So, I need your help. Which style of Chandelier do you like more? It is for my living room...
OR
OR

none of the above... I would love suggestions (you could leave a link in the comments) if you don't like either!

San Fran, house & more

Two weekends ago, my entire family met up in San Francisco for a reunion. It was amazing. We have a huge family - 60 people to be exact - so getting together is an extra special treat! The weather was unbelievable... San Fran spoiled us. We stayed in chocolate town - aka Ghirardelli square - dangerous. We went to an amazing farmers market, explored Alcatraz, had some fantastic food - including a late night donut run - and of course spent a lot of time just catching up. My Uncle David did an amazing job setting everything up, and we can't thank him enough for getting us all together.
The house is coming along. The drywall is all done, and they are working on the base trim & window casing, painting, and finishing the siding. There was some tile drama (I hear that happens a lot!) last week, and the progress is much slower than I would like - however I would rather it be done right than be done on time & poorly constructed. The siding has only one coat of stain - it needs its final coat, however that won't be happening till the spring because it is too cold now to paint... sad. The below is a photo of the North side of the house, there will be a deck where there is still Tyvek...
I have decided that contractors need to learn the motto "under promise. over deliver". It would save a lot of heartache on the clients side thats for sure!

I am flying South, La Jolla to be exact, this Friday to escape the winter weather for 10 days for my two favorite holidays - my birthday & Thanksgiving.

Fiji Recap

It is amazing I ever left Fiji. Sometimes people are a little light and loose with the phrase 'paradise found'. I kid you not, this was the true meaning. Amazing friends, amazing place - what could be better! I finally am getting around to posting photos, and I will do another once Bland finalizies a sweet timelapse film of the trip!
The fam. Another reason why only one person should take a picture at a time instead of paparazzi style.
the tan-o-meter photo. just missing my mom.
be prepared to play games if you are ever going on vacation with the Hokes.
party favors given last Christmas. we made good use of them.
Note to self & everyone else traveling out of the country. DO NOT forget to check your bag before going through customs - rookie mistake. These little clementines that I packed at the last minute leaving JH and had totally forgot about showed up on their 1942 scanner machine. Well, I found out quickly those two {there were actually three, one was never found by evil customs lady} cost me (well really Liz who saved me with her ATM card) $400.00. Not so funny then, still a little tender now.
It was the most amazing trip. I can't wait to go back & hope that everyone at some point will find themselves in paradise! I want to thank my parents, once again, for inviting us on this trip - words can't express how incredible it was.

We are heading to San Francisico tomorrow for a family reuniun, whoo hoo! When I get home I will update on the house! For the Simmons family - see you soon!

Bon Voyage!

Tomorrow we are off on an splendid adventure.
There are 15 of us lucky enough to get this coveted invitation.
To celebrate a big birthday - on a little island in FIJI.
Dad is turning 70 (much as he would love us spreading that news around!)
8 days of suntanning, eating, scuba diving, paddle boarding, croquet, snorkeling, runs, hikes, reading, massages... I could go on...
I have been working very hard on a surprise for him for the last 2 months - more on that later.
In the meantime I will attempt to stop by during the vacation, but no promises!
I have passed off all my house responsibilities to Sam (he didn't make the invite list - his own children barely did!), and all design questions to Jacque and have my fingers crossed that nothing will come up that they can't handle without me!

Fall is here

It has actually been very fall-ish for the last couple weeks here & the leaves are all barely holding on. One day it is 75 degrees, the next I am in full down wear with Tucker draped across me because I am so cold. That is when you know it's fall. I usually complain when the season hits because we are one step away from winter - but I really do love it deep down.

My annual hunt is on. Others in the valley are hunting for animals, but my hunt consists of finding the perfect boot. Different strokes for different folks!

Here are a few fall picks (including boots I have my eye on - and a little hunter orange too).

house photos!

I realized I haven't updated since those photos of the fire. We are all safe and sound, it took a number of days but the threat of our town burning down is gone. Phew - thank goodness! Sadly we have been stuck in a smokey haze for the past couple weeks which has not been all that fun...

On to the house! We are moving along quite nicely! Of course I wish it was done yesterday, but that's the way it goes. Here are some photos I took today & a snapshot of some decisions I have made so far!

I will keep you updated - this week they are hopefully going to put on the asphalt shingle roof & the windows - then we will be all buttoned up incase the worst happens - snow.

Fire in our little Jackson Hole

There is a fire raging here in Jackson Hole and it is getting dangerously close {about a mile} to east Jackson Hole. There are evacuation preparations underway for portions of the town. About 2040 acres have burned so far... yikes! There have been some incredible/eerie photos being published, and I thought I would share some. Send some rain & no wind thoughts our way!

All the photos below of the smoke/fire come from Taylor Glenn, an amazing Jackson Hole photographer. For more, go to his website.

My {in progress} house is not in immediate danger, but it quickly could become a target. I am more concerned about everyone else around me & those in the evac zone - they have so much more to loose than I do - that's for sure. I did have a moment of panic and texted my contractor late last night to make sure we have builders insurance that covers fires. we do. brownie points for Bryan.
Sam (really good looking one above) was there at the start of the fire Saturday afternoon & worked for hours fighting the fire & thus saving homes. Once the fire went up into Wilson canyon, efforts shifted to the Forest Service to fight, but now it is threatening another area of town. Sam will be stationed all night, ready to protect anything that needs protecting.
